About the Driver

Dan Schechter is both the owner and driver of the Jigsawrx7 team car.  He has been involved with the drag
race scene since December 1999 after purchasing his first Rx7, a 1993 red touring model.  In his quest for
performance, Dan quickly became friends with co-owners master tuner Chris Ott and world renowned driver Ari
Yallon of Rotary Performance.  This fast friendship led to Dan attending RX7.COM team events first as a
crewmember, and soon thereafter, racing his own car at some of the closer, and more simple to reach events.

Under the wing from Chris and Ari of team Rx7.com, the first race he joined in April 2001, he ran a 12.88 on
the first pass with only minor modifications to the car.  He continued to make the car slightly faster and faster
until later on that year, in an unfortunate accident unrelated to racing, the car was totaled.  Soon after, since
most of the parts from the car were still salvageable, a black shell of a 1993 rx7 was purchased.  Dan wanted
to take this car and start from scratch utilizing a combination of parts from both cars, as well as some select
new parts, to essentially, put humpty-dumpty back together again. While maintaining a full time job, just one
short, exhausting month later, the new black car was up and running in the low-twelve-second range while still
a daily driver as well.  In the August 2002 edition of Turbo and High Tech Performance Magazine, the car
featured a four-page spread, dubbed “Jigsaw 7”, which benchmarked the beginning of Jigsawrx7.com.

In 2002, Dan moved to southern California to attend Universal Technical Institute’s Hot Rod University to work
on his automotive certifications.  He competed as his studies permitted and rapidly became a major contender
at events.  Upon completion of his studies in 2003, Dan moved to the East Coast to continue his automotive
studies at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, North Carolina.  He continued drag racing on the East
Coast as much as he could, while pursuing advanced specialty certifications in NASCAR and Ford automotive
systems.

In November of 2002, while on his way to the last event of the year held at Los Angeles County Raceway, Dan
and his girlfriend, Stephanie, got caught up in a six-car collision involving the truck and trailer.  His racecar was
on an 18ft flatbed trailer at the time and fortunately, the trailer received 75% of the damage, the car only
received the remaining 25%, and nobody was seriously hurt.

After the wreck, with nearly a year of fighting with insurance companies and various lawyers, Dan was able to
barely afford a new steel 24ft enclosed trailer with the insurance money, and he fixed the car himself.  A little
over a year later, in 2004, he decided the 24ft trailer just wasn’t doing the job he had hoped it would, and
traded it in for the 48’ Featherlite he has now.  Also, in 2005, he found that the F250 short bed wasn’t
sufficient enough to tow the trailer reliably, so he traded it in for an F350 dually, which is the setup he now has
today.

In 2005, having graduated from NTI, Dan returned home.  He accepted a job offer from a local Ford dealership,
working as a specialty technician.  With his schooling complete, Dan refocused his attention to competing as
heavily as possible.  After participating in numerous NHRA, NOPI, IDRC, ID Drag Wars, and Import Face-off
events in the past, Dan is able to apply his knowledge.  With the help of Chris Ott of Rotary Performance, he is
currently proving his ability to compete, both as a skilled driver, and as the team mechanic.  He has built team
Jigsawrx7.com solely out of himself, Chris Ott, and a few close friends willing to help for no form of payment
other than the thrill of the race scene.  While on a severely smaller budget, and with fewer resources available
than some of the larger competitors, Dan continues to push his way into being one of the top contenders in
the legendary, highly competitive, NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) Sport Compact Series Sport Rear-
wheel-drive class.  For the 2006 season, Dan is teaming up with teammate Ken Scheepers (www.Kenscheepers.
com), to tackle the grueling NHRA schedule, by traveling together and splitting cost of reaching the events, as
well as helping each other out on and off the track whenever possible.  With multiple powerhouses fighting for
number one, they are some of the few, true rotary-powered underdogs left to nibble at the heels of his
competitors, striving to keep the Rotary alive............
